A taper bush is designed to create a secure concentric connection without pressing the pulley directly onto the shaft. Good installation depends on clean mating surfaces, even tightening and accurate alignment.
Prepare the parts
Disconnect and lock out the machine. Clean the shaft, key, bush bore and mating taper. Remove burrs and contamination that could cock the bush.
Assemble the bush and pulley
Place the bush in the pulley hub and align the screw holes according to the bush design. Insert the key when required, then slide the assembly to the working position.
Tighten progressively
Tighten the screws alternately in small steps. Use the bush manufacturer’s specified torque for the exact size; do not invent one torque for every bush.
Align before tensioning
Check that the driver and driven pulley grooves are in the same plane. Correct alignment before applying final belt tension.
Recheck after run-in
After the initial operating period, follow the machine/belt service procedure for tension and fastener checks. If the pulley is being removed, use the extraction holes provided by the bush system rather than hammering the rim.
